Need A Break? Get Away Close To Home With a Southwest Michigan Staycation!

There’s so much to love about September and October in Berrien County. The heat of August has started to give way to milder (yet still plenty sunny!) weather. And as tourists head home for the season, our parks, beaches, restaurants, shops, and lodging are less crowded – meaning locals get our chance to enjoy them!

If those beautiful, warm days and cool evenings are tempting you to take a little getaway, why not “staycation” close to home? It’s a great way to explore areas of the county you don’t get to as often while putting yourself in the tourist’s seat.

We polled the Buy Local Berrien! Facebook group to find out where locals would most love to take their fall staycation, and got some great responses. Some even created mini-itineraries, like Maureen’s awesome idea for a fun-filled day in Coloma:

Over the next two weeks, we’ll be sharing customized itineraries based on the area of the county, with suggestions for where to eat, shop, play, and stay. In the meantime, enjoy this sampling of tips from enthusiastic locals, and start dreaming up your own Southwest Michigan staycation today.
