Here comes Peter Cotton Tail, hoppin’ down the bunny trail! Oh how I used to love when my mom would sing this song to me as a child, and well even as an adult. I loved hearing her voice, but mainly I loved that Peter Cotton Tail flowing from my mom’s mouth meant Spring was here and the Easter Bunny was soon to follow! I think we all had different celebratory rituals for Easter growing up so I want to share a few of my own and also a few new traditions I have been introduced to!

Dye, Glitter, and Eggs- Oh my!

Ahh… I can remember every Saturday, before Easter Sunday, my parents would get all of us kids together to dye and decorate our eggs. I remember using the wax crayons in the premade kits to make designs (and draw on my siblings because I knew they were “invisible” and I wouldn’t get in trouble if mom and dad couldn’t see the mark) before plunging my egg headfirst into the mixture of vinegar and water. If you are like me and enjoyed harassing your siblings swing by a local store and grab one of the kits.

If you have little ones and are looking for a taste test safe option, pick up some cool whip, the kind that grandma used to put on top of the pumpkin pie. Start by soaking your eggs in vineger for 5 to 10 minutes, while they are soaking prep your cool whip by dripping some food coloring in and swirl gently with a knife. Once you have your desired pattern for your egg drop it in the cool whip and roll it around a few times. Let it sit in there for another 5 to 10 minutes and remove. Rinse your creation under cold water and dry with a towel. Mom’s no longer have to fear stopping their kiddo’s from licking their fingers or drinking the vinegar and you have a perfectly decorated egg to hunt!

The History Center at Courthouse Square in Berrien Springs brought back their Bunny Hunt this year. Sunday, April 2nd, from 11 am to noon children will be invited in to find one of the “bunny tokens” hidden in the building. This token can be exchanged for one of their 8 inch goodie filled rabbits. The South Haven VanBuren County Convention and Visitors Bureau has put together their FIRST EVER egg hunt at Kal-Haven Outpost (0500 Co Rd 687 South Haven, MI 49090). On Saturday, April 8th, 2023 at 11 am two separate groups of children, one 2 to 6 years old, and one for 7 to 12 years old, will be able to hunt easter eggs filled with candy, prizes, and tickets for big prizes! There is a $5 fee per child to hunt eggs.

Don’t have children? Or maybe you have the day to yourself and are looking for an adult day date? Also on Saturday, April 8th, 2023, Vinyard 2121 is hosting an adult Easter egg hunt! Thats right! Stop by Vinyard 2121 in Benton Harbor at noon, where eggs will be hidden around the vinyard with 21+ prizes enclosed!

Sweet Treat

Didn’t get enough candy? Or maybe decided to forego the hunt all together and just skip to the sweet treat part?!? I know just the place!
